CALL FOR EOI: BCIS Training & Education Working Group

We would like to invite expressions of interest from current BCIS members keen to have a role in the continued development of our Society by contributing to the work of the Training and Education Group.

Training and Education Group Committee Member: Member without Portfolio 

The Training and Education Group (TEG) is responsible for coordinating all T&E activities within the Society. These activities include provision of a wide range of educational events for its members, including fellowships, BCIS courses & sessions at ACI. The group is also central to the support of the BCIS interventional fellowship programme.

We are looking for an enthusiastic member who has novel ideas to develop the goals of the TEG and BCIS for the future.

Eligibility/Person Specification

Applications are open to any member of BCIS, and it is expected that the applicant will have some experience of education and training in the field of interventional cardiology.

Candidates should also be able to demonstrate experience of committee work, good organisational and leadership abilities.

The position is for a 3-year term and will commence July 2024.

Application is by self-nomination, with reference to the person specification above. A supporting statement from the candidate, no more than 500 words, which specifically addresses their suitability for the role must accompany self-nomination for the application to be valid.

These applications will be scored by a panel consisting of the TEG Chair, currently Dougie Muir, together with other members of BCIS Council. Successful candidates will be chosen based upon the best scores.

We would like to invite expressions of interest from BCIS members keen to have a role in the continued development of our Society by contributing to the work of the AHP Group.

Allied Health Professional Working Group Member Without Portfolio (x1post)

We are looking for dedicated, enthusiastic and experienced allied health professional to join the Group and play a key role in its various activities including organisation of the BCIS AHP Summer Meeting; ACI – AHP sessions. You can find out more details about the Allied Health Professionals Group on the BCIS website where there is a dedicated AHP area.

The position is for a 3-year term.

Person Specification

Qualifications: Relevant professional qualification for discipline.

Experience: Relevant experience in interventional cardiology practice. As a guide, indicative experience of eight years post qualification with at least five years working within interventional cardiology desirable. Minimum of two years at senior level.

Other: an interest in teaching and education is essential with an expected commitment to take part in sessions during the AHP Summer meeting and ACI. Experience of delivering talks / leading teaching sessions is desirable. Must be an allied health professional and BCIS member.

We are looking for enthusiastic members who have novel ideas to develop the goals of the AHP group and BCIS for the future.

This post offers well established, high-quality, high-volume structural training in a prominent international cardiac centre. The post is funded for 12 months and has a work programme primarily focussed on catheter laboratory activity. There are opportunities for participating in research and structural heart disease programmes. As well as offering advanced training, this post provides an excellent opportunity to live and work in another country and experience a different healthcare system.

This post is highly competitive and most suitable for individuals who already have a strong background of interventional training with academic research and previous exposure to structural training is desirable.

Access to the fellowships is limited to UK trainees in their final two years of Specialist Registrar training who intend to specialise in Structural Cardiology and are BCIS members. The supervising consultants act on behalf of the BCIS Training and Education Group.

The BCIS educational forum has now been successfully running for over two years and has been a great success with high numbers attending the live stream and watching on-demand after the session. The sessions address the JRCPTB higher specialist interventional cardiology curriculum.

We are now looking for expression of interest for more Consultants to supervise the Trainee speaker to continue the delivering high-quality sessions for all BCIS members to enjoy. The sessions last for 1 hour in total and start at 19:00 on the second Tuesday of the month. We are looking for Consultants to supervise sessions starting from July – December 2024.

BCIS is looking for enthusiastic Interventional Fellows to create regular content for the Fellows Corner section of the BCIS website.

Background Information

There are six fellow editor positions available within BCIS and each editor would be expected to produce two blog pieces for the website each year. Ideas for subject matter are listed below and other suggestions are welcomed. Support is provided to help with the writing of the content and proofreading, and your article will be viewed by members of the communications team before publishing. We would expect each article to be around 1,000 words in length. A content calendar will be created so editors know when their content should be created by.

The positions would last for one year, with the option to extend at the discretion of the communication team.

You can see two examples of content created for the Fellows Corner area of the BCIS website below:

Suggested subject matters include:

  • How To Create A Killer CV
  • Are You Ready For A Consultant Job?
  • How To Deliver The Perfect Interview
  • How To Get The Consultant Job Of Your Dreams

In addition, individuals should have high levels of enthusiasm and dedication to the writing of content and ideas for the Fellows Corner area of the website.

Call for Self-Nominations for the Election of a Member Without Portfolio to BCIS Council

We would welcome self-nominations for a position on BCIS Council. We are looking to attract enthusiastic and committed BCIS members keen to have a role in the continued development of our Society.

Member without Portfolio positions are for a 3-year term. The post will commence in January 24 and replaces Dr Shrilla Banerjee who will be stepping down. I’d like to thank Shrilla for the commitment she brought to her role.

BCIS Young Investigator Award 2024

BCIS Young Investigator Award 2024

Dear BCIS Member,

I am pleased to invite you to submit one or more abstracts to showcase your research in competition for the BCIS Young Investigator Award 2024.

This award is open to BCIS members. Clinicians should be in training or in either a locum or fellowship post in advance of taking up a substantive consultant appointment. The applicant would normally be presenting original data from a project for which they have played a leading role, but will freely acknowledge the contribution of their supervisor and the rest of the research team.

Applications will be graded and the top five will be invited to present their abstract to a panel of judges at the BCIS Research Day on Thursday, 14 December, Royal College of Physicians, London.

The winner will then be invited to present their abstract at a main session at ACI 2024, and will receive their certificate and prize from the President at the conference dinner on Thursday, 1 February 2024.

All submissions should be submitted via the form below by the closing date of 5 pm on the 27 November.
