BCIS is excited to announce a brand new international fellowship at St Michael’s Hospital,  Toronto with applications now being taken. St Michael’s is the biggest structural intervention unit in Toronto, and the highest volume TEER centre in Canada. The successful candidate would have the option to focus primarily on TAVI or on TEER, but with exposure to both, as well as to TMVR, TTVR, PFO closure and LAAO. 

This post offers a well-established, high-quality, high-volume interventional training in prominent international cardiac centres. The post is funded for 12 months, an expected salary is £70,000, the contribution is equally split between BCIS industry support and the hosting centre.   The training programme is primarily focussed on all aspects of structural heart intervention, and there will be the opportunity to participate in clinical research related to structural heart intervention. As well as offering advanced interventional training, it provides an excellent opportunity to live and work in another country and experience a different healthcare system.

The posts are highly competitive and are most suitable for individuals who already have a strong background of interventional training and academic research.

Access to the fellowships is limited to UK trainees in their final two years of Specialist Registrar training who intend to specialise in interventional cardiology and are BCIS members. The supervising consultants act on behalf of the BCIS Training and Education Group.

Within the form, you will need to attach a detailed CV (this should include a personal statement and procedural numbers) AND letters of support from two supervisory consultants. We would like to invite expressions of interest from BCIS members keen to have a role in the continued development of our Society by contributing to the work of the AHP Group. 

Allied Health Professional Working Group: Member Without Portfolio 

We are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic and experienced allied health professional to join the Group and play a key role in its various activities including organisation of the BCIS AHP Summer Meeting; ACI – AHP sessions. You can find out more details about the Allied Health Professionals Group on the BCIS website where there is a dedicated AHP area. 

The position is for a 3-year term commencing in August 2026.

Person Specification 

Qualifications: Relevant professional qualification for discipline. 

Experience: Relevant experience in interventional cardiology practice. As a guide, indicative experience of eight years post qualification with at least five years working within interventional cardiology desirable. Minimum of two years at senior level. 

Other: an interest in teaching and education is essential with an expected commitment to take part in sessions during the AHP Summer meeting and ACI. Experience of delivering talks / leading teaching sessions is desirable. Must be an allied health professional and BCIS member. 

As a member of the Working Group, you are expected to prioritise attendance at all scheduled meetings. The group holds a minimum of two meetings per year, with the possibility of additional meetings being held on an ad-hoc basis. You will be notified of upcoming meetings with sufficient notice. We ask that you take this into consideration when applying for any Working Group roles.  

Application 

Application is by self-nomination, with reference to the person specification above. A supporting statement from the candidate, no more than 500 words  which specifically addresses their suitability for the role must accompany self-nomination in order for the application to be valid. 

These applications will be scored by a panel consisting of the AHP Lead, together with other members of BCIS Council and Working Group. The successful candidates will be chosen based upon the best scores. 

The deadline for applications is Friday 10 July (5pm).

Expression of Interest – BCIS Communications Group

The British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS) is inviting expressions of interest from enthusiastic, innovative, and committed BCIS members who are keen to contribute to the continued growth and development of the Society.

Successful applicants will work closely with the Communications Group Lead, Dr Krishnaraj Rathod, helping to shape and strengthen BCIS communications, digital engagement, and educational outreach.

About the BCIS Communications Group

The Communications Group plays a central role in overseeing the Society’s:

  • Website development and digital presence
  • Social media strategy and content
  • Digital educational activities and engagement initiatives

The group also supports effective communication between BCIS members, BCIS Council, and the wider cardiovascular community, including BCS, EAPCI, ESC, and PCR.

Eligibility and Person Specification

Applications are welcomed from all BCIS members. Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Experience in communications and/or digital engagement
  • An active understanding of social media platforms and their professional use
  • Familiarity with website development or digital content management

This appointment is for a 3-year term.

This post is highly competitive and most suitable for individuals who already have a strong background of interventional training with academic research. A previous exposure to structural training is desirable.

The British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS) is proud to announce the launch of the BCIS ICI Accreditation — the first formal assessment of its kind dedicated exclusively to Intracoronary Imaging (ICI).

International clinical guidelines increasingly emphasise the pivotal role of Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) in contemporary PCI practice. This prestigious new accreditation establishes a nationally recognised benchmark, enabling consultants, trainees, and AHPs to formally demonstrate their specialist knowledge and interpretative expertise in these essential imaging modalities.

The BCIS ICI Accreditation is delivered as an image-based, 1-hour online MCQ examination, sat at a predetermined date and time. Successful candidates will gain objective assurance of their ability to interpret complex intracoronary imaging data to optimise procedural outcomes — reassurance valued by colleagues, healthcare organisations, and interview panels alike.

Beyond strengthening your professional CV, this accreditation aims to promote a consistent, high standard of knowledge and clinical assurance in intracoronary imaging across the UK.

Please note that the examination must be taken on a laptop or desktop computer with a strong, reliable internet connection.
