BCIS Council Election 2019 results for Honorary Secretary and R&D Group Lead

19th September 2019

Dear BCIS Members,

I am delighted to announce that Dr Clare Appleby was successful in the recent election for BCIS Honorary Secretary, and Prof Colin Berry was successful in the recent election for Research & Development Group Lead. Both Clare and Colin will officially take over from the current postholders (Dan Blackman and Nick Curzen respectively) in January 2020 following ACI.

There was an outstanding field of candidates for these two posts, and on behalf of Council, I would like to congratulate Clare and Colin on their successful appointments, and thank all the applicants for their interest in BCIS, and all those current and ex council members who voted.

Best wishes,
Dan Blackman

BCIS President 2020

BCIS President 2020

27th May 2019

Dear BCIS Members,

As you know, consultants who offer private treatment services are under a legal obligation to be transparent about the typical fees they charge patients for private consultations and procedures.

Professor Curzen will take over from Professor Adrian Banning at the conclusion of ACI 2020, with a lead-in period of approximately 6 months commencing at the BCIS Council meetings on June 26th 2019.

The election was notable for a record turn-out, with over 500 votes cast, which represents a 100% increase on the most recent previous election for President, and is undoubtedly a reflection of the quality of the field as well as the engagement of the BCIS membership. I would like to thank all of you who voted.

I am sure you will join me in congratulating Professor Curzen on his success.

30th April 2019

Election of President of the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society

I am pleased to announce that voting for the post of President of BCIS is now open. Please note that none of the votes cast in the original election on April 14th/15th will be counted, so if you had already voted, please vote again.

Professor Adrian Banning’s term as President will finish at ACI January 2020, but there will be a 6-month lead-in period for the President-elect, whose office will run for 3 years, until January 2023.

It goes without saying that this post represents the pivotal role in the Society, and will guide its direction over the 3 years the successful candidate is in office. I would therefore ask all members to take the time to consider the credentials of each candidate carefully, and to vote for your preferred applicant. This is a single-vote election.

There are five outstanding candidates for the post. The supporting statements of all of them are accessible below.
Voting is performed online using the link. The closing date for voting is May 24th 2019 at 5pm.

We look forward to receiving your vote.

18th April 2019

BCIS Presidential Election

I am pleased to announce that voting for the post of President of BCIS is now open. .
The personal statement of one of the 5 candidates, Professor Neal Uren, was not included on the election web page and accompanying e-mail. This was an administrative error, but it has become apparent that although all 5 candidates submitted their self-nominations before the closing date, Professor Uren’s supporting statement was not received until later.
The BCIS Administration Group, consisting of the President, Honorary Secretary, Treasurer, Audit Lead, and Clinical Standards Lead, has agreed that the election should be re-run and all previous votes will be discounted. All 5 candidates, Professor Nick Curzen, Dr Sen Devadathan, Professor David Hildick-Smith, Professor Philip MacCarthy, and Professor Neal Uren will be included and their supporting statements will be available on the website.
The election voting process will be relaunched on Monday April 29th. You will receive an e-mail with details of all candidates, including personal statements, and how to vote. Please note that none of the votes cast on Sunday 14th and Monday 15th April will be counted, so anyone who voted then will need to vote again and they are encouraged to do so.
Once again we sincerely apologise for the disruption this has caused, in particular to all of the candidates. We are grateful for their understanding.

BCIS AGM 2018 Notice

BCIS AGM 2018 Notice

5th January 2018

Dear Members,

You are invited to attend the Annual General Meeting of the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society, to be held in the Blenheim Suite at the London Hilton Metropole Hotel at 18.30 on January 25th 2018.

An important agenda item at the AGM will be a vote on changes to the Articles of the Charity. This change is required because the current Rules of BCIS conflict with the Articles, which is in contradiction to Charities Law. Specifically, the Articles state that all new appointments to BCIS Council must be made at the AGM, whereas the Rules (as has been the practice) state that appointments are made through an election process conducted by a ballot done by mail, e-mail or otherwise not in person, and can occur at whatever time a position becomes available. This is essentially a legal/technical issue, but one that we are required to address. Please find a link to a word document which includes the AGM notice, together with details of the proposed amendment to the Articles, and details of how to appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf if you are unable to attend the AGM but wish to vote on the change to the Articles.

I look forward to seeing you at ACI.

I have no doubt Dan will make a major contribution to the Society, and am delighted to welcome him to the Council.
