Dear BCIS Member,

I am pleased to invite you to submit abstracts to compete for the 2 BCIS Research Awards 2020.

YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD
This award is open to any person who is not yet at Consultant grade. The applicant would normally be presenting original data from a project for which they have played a leading role, but will freely acknowledge the contribution of their supervisor and the rest of the research team.

BCIS RESEARCHER OF THE YEAR AWARD
This award is open to any BCIS member. Applicants can therefore include senior investigators presenting any type of research that relates to interventional cardiology.

Applications in each category will be graded and the best 4 will be invited to present their abstract to a panel of judges at the BCIS Research Day at the Royal College of Physicians in London on 9 December 2019. The winner in each category will then be invited to present their abstract at a main session at ACI 2020,  and will receive their certificate and prize from the President at this session.

Instructions for applications:

In both categories submissions should fit the following criteria:
-statement of type of award applied for at the top, in bold  (YIA or BCIS Research)
-name of applicant first and in bold, followed by list of co-authors where appropriate
-Institution
-all original research, basic or clinical
-maximum text of 500 words
-plus up to 1 table and 1 figure
-headings: Background; Method; Results; Conclusion
-not have been published more than 6 months before the closing date  (in other words the work can be at any stage of the process from unsubmitted to accepted for publication or very recently published)
-declaration of funding

All submissions should be sent to bcis@bcs.com by closing date: midnight on 30/9/19.

BCIS Research Abstract Day 2018 – Results

Dear BCIS Member,

Yesterday we held our second annual BCIS Research Day at the Royal College of Physicians of London.

In the morning, 4 finalists presented papers for the Young Investigator Award and in the afternoon, 4 senior researchers presented their shortlisted abstracts for the new Research of the Year Award.

The standard of the entries was extremely high and the judging panels, chaired by the President, Adrian Banning, eventually chose the following winners:

YIA 2018
Dr Haseeb Rahman
Cardiovascular Division, British Heart Foundation Centre of Excellence, St Thomas’ Hospital Campus, King’s College London
Mechanisms of myocardial ischemia during exercise in coronary microvascular dysfunction

Research of the Year 2018
Professor Colin Berry
British Heart Foundation Glasgow Cardiovascular Research Centre, University of Glasgow
A randomised, double blind, placebo-controlled, parallel group trial of low-dose adjunctive alteplase during primary percutaneous coronary intervention (T-TIME)

Many congratulations to Haseeb & Colin, who will be presenting their winning submissions and receiving their awards at a new session at ACI in January.

These 2 awards will continue to be supported by BCIS on an annual basis from now on: the 2019 calls for submission will be made in Autumn 2019 with the national Research Day in December 2019.

Dear BCIS Member

I would like to invite you attend the 2nd BCIS Research Abstract Day on Thursday 13th December 2018, Royal College of Physicians, London.

At the event, the top 4 shortlisted submissions in the categories for the Young Investigator Award (YIA) and Research of the Year will presenting their abstracts in front of a panel of judges, chaired by Prof Adrian Banning, BCIS President. The winners in these 2 categories will then be invited to present their abstract at a main session at ACI 2019 and will receive their certificate and prize from the President at this session.

Schedule:
– Registration/sign-in opens from 10.15am.
– The morning session focuses on the YIA, and is scheduled between 11am – 1pm. There will be a lunch break from 1pm to 1.40pm. The YIA winner will be announced by 1.45pm.
– The afternoon session focuses on Research of the Year, and is scheduled between 1.45pm – 3.45pm. There will be a refreshments break of approx 15 minutes. The Research of the Year winner will be announced shortly after 4pm.

Lunch and coffee will be provided during the day to BCIS members.
