The fourth in the series of the BCIS Educational Forum took place on Tuesday 13th July. Titled “Acute Coronary Syndromes – NSTEMI”, the speaker for the session was Dr Tom Kite, Research Fellow in Cardiovascular Medicine, University Hospitals of Leicester. The supervisor for the session was Prof. Julian Gunn, Professor of Interventional Cardiology at University of Sheffield.

NSTEMI patients represent a challenging population. Compared to STEMI, patients are older, carry a higher comorbidity burden, and have more complex coronary disease. The use of a routine invasive strategy has increased markedly over the past 20 years and has been associated with an improvement in clinical outcomes.

Current approaches are informed by a number of large and well-conducted randomised-controlled trials, but there are significant limitations to consider when applying these data to contemporary practice. This BCIS trainee webinar covers:

• Use of routine invasive vs. selective invasive strategies in NSTEMI
• Timing of a routine invasive strategy in NSTEMI
• Importance of baseline risk assessment to individualise use and timing of invasive strategies
• An overview of multi-vessel disease in NSTEMI
