8th March 2022
BCIS is committed to improving educational opportunities for all its members and to addressing the gender gap in Interventional Cardiology and therefore have launched bi-monthly meetings for WIIC. This will allow for education and discussion, the opportunity to network and for mentoring of junior consultants and trainees. The webinars will focus on key issues faced by WIIC as well as sharing key skills and tips to help women working in the speciality to advance their career.
Webinars will take place every other month starting with March, on the fourth Tuesday in that month from 8-9 pm. Each session will take the format of a 15-minute case presentation with a speaker and discussant, followed by a 30-minute presentation on a key topic by a second presenter, and closing with a discussion. The topics for the presentations include key soft skills such as presenting to large audiences, managing childcare, how to say no, and improving cath lab culture.
The first session will take place on Tuesday 22nd March 8-9 pm and features Dr Shazia Hussain, Consultant Cardiologist at Glenfield Hospital Leicester and Dr Dan McKenzie, Consultant Cardiologist, Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Trust as case presenters. Prof. Nick Curzen, BCIS President will then present his talk titled “Supporting women in interventional cardiology”.
