Elections for Key BCIS Roles

17th August 2022

Dear BCIS Members,

On behalf of BCIS council, I would like to invite applications for the following pivotal roles:

  • BCIS Honorary Secretary
  • Research and Development Working Group Lead
  • Structural Intervention Working Group Lead
  • Deputy Audit Lead

Application for BCIS Honorary Secretary

I would like to invite applications from past or current BCIS council members for the position of BCIS Honorary Secretary. This is an important role, working closely alongside the President to fulfil the objectives of the society and ensure its smooth operation. The role confers the position of Officer, and ex-Officio member of all BCIS subgroups. The post-holder sits at the centre of the Society’s workings, forming the Executive, along with the President and Treasurer.

This position is vacant from January 2023, when the current incumbent Dr Appleby steps down. A short run-in period will allow the successful candidate to familiarise themselves with the role. The term of office is 3 years.

Any past or current BCIS Council member is eligible to apply. Following recent changes to the Rules of the Society, the electorate will be all BCIS members.

Application for Research and Development Working Group Lead

I would like to invite applications for the position of Research and Development Group Lead. The post holder will have responsibility for all aspects of BCIS research strategy and liaise with national stakeholders on behalf of council. Specific responsibilities include oversight of BCIS R&D updates, peer review of research projects, support of meeting that promote research education and training.

This position is vacant from January 2023, when the current incumbent Professor Colin Berry steps down. A short run-in period will allow the successful candidate to familiarise themselves with the role. The term of office is 3 years.

Any BCIS member with relevant expertise is eligible to apply. Following recent changes to the Rules of the Society, the electorate will be all BCIS members.

Application for Structural Cardiac Intervention Working Group Lead

I would like to invite applications for the position of Structural Cardiac Intervention Group Lead. This is an important role, with responsibility for all aspects of structural intervention. The Group Lead will be responsible for steering the society’s position in an expanding field, and will need to liaise with other national bodies, and commissioning groups.

This position is vacant from January 2023, when the current incumbent Professor David Hildick-Smith (President Elect) steps down. A short run-in period will allow the successful candidate to familiarise themselves with the role. The term of office is 3 years.

Any BCIS member with relevant expertise is eligible to apply. Following recent changes to the Rules of the Society, the electorate will be all BCIS members.

Deputy Audit Lead

Professor Peter Ludman will step down as BCIS Audit Lead in January 23, and Professor Mamas Mamas will step up into this role, thus vacating the Deputy Audit Lead role. The Deputy post holder works alongside Audit Lead, learning and then assisting in this crucial role. The Leads have responsibility for BCIS national audit datasets and working with national bodies to manage and further develop interventional datasets, and associated analytical and reporting tools.

Any BCIS member with relevant expertise is eligible to apply. Given the unique nature of this role, the intention is that it will be chosen via a formal appointments process, including an Appointments Committee, rather than by a national election.

How to Apply

Job descriptions, with more comprehensive details of the responsibilities of each of the posts are linked below.
