Summary

In  keynote address, Dr Paul Teirstein from the Scripps clinic, California, presents a interesting review mix of the COURAGE trial looking at the “COURAGE Myths” . He tries to answer a few questions about the trial now that we have the benefit of hindsight  Were the CORAGE trial patients not low risk? Were the number of the patients on the medical therapy who crossed over  to the PCI group more? What has been the cardiologists response to the COURAGE trial and how it has shaped the present practise? And also the controversy about how to control angina.

He also looks at the interventionalist’s view of bypass surgery and presents “Three Great Myths of Cardiac Surgery”. He especially looks at the interventionist’s like for the Left internal mammary artery and dislike for the saphenous vein graft.
