The Clinical Standards Group is a small committee composed of BCIS members and patient representatives. In addition, the BCIS President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Audit Lead contribute to the group’s activities. Formal meetings are held twice a year, typically in January and June, while additional business is conducted via email throughout the year. The group is chaired by the appointed lead, who manages its activities and reports directly to the BCIS Council.
The group has a broad remit that includes:
Developing and reviewing BCIS statements on clinical practice
Coordinating and overseeing the BCIS Peer Review Programme
Providing expert input to the Royal College of Physicians’ Invited Service Reviews when requested
Engaging with national bodies such as NICE & MHRA
Coordinating BCIS responses to guidance or statements from national authorities
Contributing to discussions on workforce issues relevant to the interventional cardiology community
The Clinical Standards Group plays a key role in maintaining and advancing clinical standards within the Society.
