BCIS Audit 2006
During the BCIS Autumn Meeting held in Dublin on September 21st, 2007, Peter Ludman presented the UK National PCI Audit data for 2006. As many in the field anticipated, the double digit annual growth in activity observed for the last 15 years has slowed. In 2006, there was a modest 4.3% increase in activity compared with the previous year to 73,612 PCI procedures (1216/million population) undertaken by 91 PCI centres in the UK, 95% of which are now CCAD compliant. Outcomes are similar to previous years with an overall procedure related hospital mortality of 0.74% (range 0 – 3.0%): case-mix, particularly the presence of cardiogenic shock, is the main driver of early mortality. The full presentation including additional analyses is available to View/Download. As always, thanks are due to Peter Ludman for his huge effort in producing this unique dataset.
