Competition for Places at SCAI 2008
The Officers of BCIS are pleased to announce a competition to attend the SCAI 2008 course in Las Vegas. This is open to all interventional SpRs and fellows (pre-CCST) who are BCIS members and involves submission of an abstract (maximum 1 page A4) summarising the candidate's involvement in interventional research. Please mail the abstract as an attachment to bernard.prendergast@orh.nhs.uk by September 19th 2008.

SCAI Meeting
BCIS has always fostered and encouraged strong links with international colleagues, particularly those in Europe and the USA. A recent development is the partnership with SCAI and UK interventional trainees are strongly encouraged to consider application for a scholarship, as detailed in the attached letter recently received by Mark De Belder.

New BCS Guidance
The British Cardiovascular Society is aware of ethical concerns and potential conflicts of interest when commercial representatives are present during clinical practice. The Society considers that it would be useful to establish a set of principles of good ethical practice for its members to avoid potential conflicts of interest.

Council election
We are pleased to announce a vacancy for an ordinary member on BCIS council following Alison Calver’s completed term of office. Any BCIS member is eligible for election and should be proposed and seconded by existing BCIS members. Nominations and statements should be received by Friday 4th July and voting (to be completed by Friday 8th August) will be amongst the entire membership using a single transferable voting system.
